Happy Hanukkah to Jews all over the world who celebrate the โmiracle of lightโ that happened at the rededication of the second temple in Jerusalem, in 160 BCE, after the Maccabees defeated the Greek King Antiochusโ troops. (The Greeks wanted Jews to pray to Greek gods). The Jews lit a 7 pronged lamp but only had enough oil for 1 day. The โmiracle of lightโ occurred when the oil lasted 8 days. Because the oil was so important in this story, on Hanukkah, fried potato latkes (pancakes) are eaten.
