"Venetian Ceruse"
In the 18th century, women would paint their faces with a mixture known as "Venetian Ceruse." It was a white paint mixture of vinegar and lead! They would rouge their cheeks and lips with beets or cherries. Of course, the makeup was poisonous and , much like "Mad Hatters," the women went mad from the lead poisoning.
See below for the origin of a popular saying:
Love and Gratitude to All.

"Mind Your Own Beeswax"
In Colonial and Plantation times, women would often set their face powder with Beeswax. When women sat together at night and sewed by firelight or kerosene lamps, the wax would sometimes melt. Someone might note that and call out the impending fiasco happening on another's face. The phrase "mind your own beeswax" came out of that.
